Blue Cypress Lake
Read MoreBlue Cypress Lake in Vero Beach, FL has affectionately been called "Osprey Heaven" by wildlife photographers. In December the Ospreys begin to arrive at the lake as part of their winter migration.. During the month of January they are courting and selecting their mates and they begin to build their nests in the Cypress trees that grow out on the lake where they are surrounded by water. Each year there are over 200 pairs that are nesting. This place is magical and hundreds of photographers come from all over the world to photograph the Ospreys as they build their nests, mate, protect the nests while incubating the eggs and then hunt and bring their captured fish back to the nest to feed the family. The only way to photograph the Ospreys is by pontoon boat which is available through Middleton's Fish Camp on the west side of the lake. In addition to the incredible photographic experience is the bonus of being able to meet Joe and Jeannie Middleton who have lived on the lake and operated pontoon boat tours for 48 years.
